Cartoon: Street Harassment | Alas, a blog
via Holly Kearl
It’s really hard not to let it get to you, sometimes.
THIS. It happens to me EVERY TIME I walk to the bus or go to the grocery store and it’s not okay.
This happens to me all the time. Men: Do NOT talk to strangers like this! It’s an invasion of space and makes us VERY uncomfortable. It is not flattering. It is frightening.
Most recently, I was walking to my car with my hands full of bags. A guy getting out of his car in an alley was like, “Excuse me, what’s you name?” I said, “I’m sorry, I’m not telling you that.” He got angry and said “I just wanted to get to know you!”
My fucking life.
I never take it as a compliment, it’s more like a threat really. It seems to only come from the most stereotypically frightening people. Like white dirt bags in track suits, man. THE WORST.
